Pursuing joy on purpose

The more you nurture it, the more it grows.

If you ever find yourself in a season where life feels dull, repetitive, or a little lifeless, it may not be because something is wrong. It may be because you have not been actively creating the conditions for more joy, meaning, and aliveness.

Most of us spend way too much time on things that get us nowhere, or worse, dig us deeper into feeling miserable, unworthy, and insecure. We get stuck in mental exploration and analysis of situations that are long gone and thinking about people who contribute nothing but crumbs to our lives. We replay, revisit, and ruminate, and then wonder why we feel drained.

Create conditions for good things to happen

A much better use of our time is intentionally investing our time and resources into experiences that feel good and build us up. We somehow tend to expect that fulfillment and joy should happen spontaneously and out of nowhere. And sometimes they do. But they happen spontaneously when we create the conditions for them to happen. They grow when we start investing our time, energy, attention, and resources into experiences that actually build us up.

Sometimes that means experimenting with a bunch of new things until you find that spark of aliveness and joy. Sometimes it means noticing what makes you feel more like yourself, what adds color to your life, what feeds your soul, and intentionally creating space for it. Sometimes it means paying attention to what gives you energy and challenges you in a good way and then deciding not to leave it to chance.

Are you passing time or building a life?

A lot of people are spending their days doing things that help the hours go by, but do not bring them any closer to themselves. They are not asking what needs to change. They are not trying much of anything different. They are staying in the same loops and quietly hoping that one day they will just wake up in a life that feels better. More joy. More meaning. More confidence. More connection. As if fulfillment will somehow arrive while they keep living the exact same way. But a better life usually does not appear out of nowhere. It gets built through what you choose to invest in again and again.

Relentlessly pursue joy

I have felt the difference in my own life when I started putting real time, money, and energy into a hobby that makes me happy. It is not just something passive that helps me escape for a little while. It challenges me, but it also makes me feel good. It brings me joy and confidence. It adds depth, color, and something real to my life.

If life has been feeling stale, it may be worth asking yourself not only what is draining you, but what is nourishing you. Not only what feels bad, but what actually makes you feel more alive. What are you doing that reenergizes you? What are you pursuing that challenges you in a way that feels invigorating instead of depleting? What are you investing in that gives something meaningful back?

Because joy is not only something you stumble into. A lot of the time, it happens because you looked for it on purpose. Because you followed what lit you up. Because you stopped waiting for life to change on its own and started participating in making it better.

If something enriches your life, feeds your soul, and adds meaning to your days, do not treat it like a random extra. Do not wait for it to happen accidentally. Turn it into an intentional pursuit. Invest in it. Make room for it. Keep choosing it, because a fulfilling life is not built by chance alone. It is built by participation.
