Is this belief helpful?

We all carry beliefs that feel like facts. They feel true.

Beliefs about who we are, what we are capable of, what is possible for us, what people will think, what we can risk, and what we should avoid. If left unexamined, these beliefs can quietly guide our decisions into a life that feels smaller and more constricting than it needs to be.

But sometimes the better question is not, Is this belief true? It’s, What is this belief doing to me?

What actions is it driving? What choices is it shaping? What version of you does it bring forward?

A belief might feel familiar, convincing, even protective, but that does not mean it’s helpful. Some beliefs keep you small. Some keep you waiting. Some keep you arguing with yourself instead of moving.

So ask yourself: Is this belief making my life better? Is it bringing me closer to my real self or further away? Do I feel more empowered when I believe this, or more trapped?

You don’t have to prove a belief wrong before you loosen your grip on it. Sometimes it is enough to realize: This may not be the thought I want to build my life around.
